Our Leap of Faith

It was a classic case of love at first sight. After having looked at over a dozen B and Bs from Maryland to New Hampshire, this circa 1860 home spoke to us with its architectural details, plentiful windows, nooks and crannies and gorgeous grounds and gardens. And, the charming seaside village of Rockport made us literally scream out “THIS IS IT!” And as they say, the rest is history.

And so, in 2011 we resigned from our careers in education, and moved from New Jersey to Massachusetts to begin a new adventure as owners and innkeepers of the Beech Tree Bed and Breakfast. We also happened to get married that year, so it is why we call it our GIANT leap of faith!

Many years later we marvel at how crazy we were but are happy to report we have not one single regret. What we did not know was how much we would grow personally in this new endeavor. We have become part of a welcoming vibrant  community full of opportunities for educational and artistic pursuits.

As active members of the Rockport Innkeeper Association we have collaborated on projects, such as, creating and publishing a cookbook whose proceeds help support Rockport events, and organizing fund raisers to provide scholarships for high school students who have worked in our inns. We are members of the Cape Ann Museum where Dan serves as a docent and benefit from its many educational programs. As members of the Sandy Bay Yacht Club, we organize social events such as themed dinners, clam chowder contests, lobster roll nights, and wine and craft beer tastings.

Surrounded by the most picturesque landscapes of pristine seas, rocky coastline, and the most glorious sunshine, we have found our “happy place” and love sharing it with travelers from all over the globe. We have hosted guests from as far as Singapore, Australia and Madagascar, to name a few! Travelers call it a home away from home, but we call it a labor of love. Looking forward to seeing you soon!

Our historic home is aptly named for its 150-year-old majestic Copper Beech tree. It is a welcoming landmark to tourists and locals alike due to its prominent location on Broadway. Ideally situated in the heart of Rockport’s walkable historic district, the house sits stoically on a hill amidst beautifully landscaped grounds with perennial gardens, natural stone patio and fountains.

Greek Revival style began to dominate New England architecture after the War of 1812 in an effort to symbolize classic ideals of democracy. Typical Greek-Revival details are evident in our home; two and a half floors, gable fronted façade, portico with Doric columns and entry door situated to the side surrounded by side lights and upper rectangular transom. Greek influence carries over onto the open columned rocking chair porch, a welcoming retreat for guests. The bright eclectic interior blends period details such as high ceilings, wainscoting, original hardware and leaded glass cabinets with contemporary features.

We are privileged to serve as stewards of this historic home and genuinely love sharing its unique charm with our guests. We strive to create a most inviting and comfortable bed and breakfast experience and hope to see you soon
